The Popularity of Fishing

Fishing is one of the most popular sports in the United States. In the United States, there are over fifty million people who like to fish.

People fish because they like to get outside, to get away from their daily routines and to be a part the sport is often perceived as relaxing. Many people find fishing very relaxing. They like spending time on the water and they enjoy the unpredictability of the weather because it forces them to react.

Even though fish are alive, some of the studies suggest that they don’t feel pain in the way humans do. With rare exceptions, fish are cold-blooded and have an excellent sense of smell. They get oxygen from the water using their grills. Their bodies are shaped in a way that allows them to move efficiently through water. While fish do not have external ears, they can hear and are very sensitive to noise. Fish have a lateral line that detects low-frequency vibrations. Using this organ, fish locate pray and identify predators, collect information about water temperature and the currents. This means that while fish may not have human intellect, they are still very well equipped when it comes to avoiding people that are trying to catch them. They know their surroundings and know how to navigate them exceptionally well.

People have been catching fish with the purpose of eating it for thousands of years and you can fish with this purpose, too. Fish taste great and are a healthy source of proteins and omega-3 fatty acids.

Today many people like the idea of sustainable food and knowing where their food comes from. From this perspective, fishing is very hard to beat. As long as the location where you fish has high quality of water, you can add freshly caught fish to your menu on a regular basis.
